Bangalore: On July 25, 2008, nine serial blasts rocked Bangalore killing one, seven months later police say that not just the main conspirator Riaz Bhatkal but also Abdul Sattar Malapuram in Kerala along with 8 others from the same state were involved.

“With a lot of effort and co-operation from the Hyderabad police, we were able to nab the person on January 20. Once the person was secured the way was very clear and our task was more or less easy,” says Bangalore Police Commissioner, Shankar Bidari.

Police say Bhatkal and Sattar planned the blasts. The others are unemployed rural youth not known to belong to any terror organization.

“No names, they don't have any names and they don't have any organization,” says Bangalore Police Commissioner, Shankar Bidari.

Bangalore police say inputs from J&K police were crucial to cracking the case. The J&K police had arrested a few people from Kerala for terrorist training and participation in Jehadi activities in the valley.

Bangalore's joint commissioner of police Gopal Hosur says investigations aren’t complete.

“We’re looking for some other members, whose identity we would not like to disclose at this stage. But we are confident of nabbing them, and then some of the entire network of the serial blasts. Probably when the investigations are complete we will know to which larger module they are attached.

“So far our investigation has not indicated any local support, but since we are yet to arrest some people who have participated in the blast, maybe after we arrest them and interrogate them, we should be able to say the final word on that,” he said.

Bangalore police now say the four Malayalis who were killed in the valley for trying to cross the border were also involved in the blasts.

“We have detected the case and I must say that our investigations is in progress and we will take the investigation to the last part in unearthing the whole gambit,” says Jt Commissioner, Gopal Hosur.

But there are many questions that remain to be asked like where is Riaz Bhatkal and to which terror group do these nine people belong to, questions that the Bangalore police will have to answer.
