Bangalore: The garden city woke up to loud protests Tuesday morning when nearly a hundred activists of the Kannada Sena demonstrated in front of St Claret School in Jalahalli.
They were voicing the plight of parents of several students who alleged that the Principal, Father Mathew, had been harassing them.
“For a long time, we didn't know what the scene was. Our daughters were blackmailed into keeping quiet. They were told their career and their life would be ruined if they told us about it. Our daughters were also ashamed to tell us their plight,” said a parent of a student of the school, Murali.
It was at a party in Murali's house on Sunday night, when the school children spoke out. And soon after, parents filed complaints with the police.
“We have two complaints registered by parents of two girls of indecent behaviour by the Principal. We are verifying the allegation of sexual harassment,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Bangalore North), Malini Krishnamurthy.
The police is yet to trace the Principal, who's been missing since Sunday night. Shocked parents are meeting human rights activists to decide the course of action.
“We got to know about the harassment only on Sunday. After that we went to the health minister's office,” said another parent, Basavaraj.
“If the principal comes back, we'll shift our children out of this school,” said Murali.
For now, the school has declared Christmas vacations Tuesday onwards, four days ahead of the scheduled date in the school calendar.
