New Delhi: The Delhi government has asked Blueline buses to stay off Delhi roads for the next two days. The decision comes after the buses were involved in three more fatal accidents.
But it’s the commuters who are caught between the devil and the deep blue sea in the Capital.
Commuters be prepared - there will be no Blueline buses at your bus stop on Saturday or Sunday.
With the number of accidents caused by Blueline drivers showing no sign of decreasing the Delhi government has once again decided to pull the notorious buses of the roads.
Transport Minister Haroon Yusuf said, “They have to get all their clearance certificates from the transport authority. Only then will they be allowed to run.''
The problem could extend over the weekend since it is unlikely that all the buses will get the required paperwork by Monday.
It’s been a forth night since the government decided to fix the Blueline problem but no concrete plan has been put on the table. Bus operators feel the latest move is impractical.
Blueline Operator DM Bhatnagar said, “You cannot cure a fever in two days. This is a huge issue and the government needs to come up with a viable solution.''
With Blueline buses catering to 65 per cent of Delhi's transport needs every time Blueline go off the road, it’s the commuters who are at the receiving end. Their reactions though are mixed.
“They are a menace they should be taken off the road. What are we going to do without buses on the road, ” says one commuter.
More than 955 drivers involved in accidents have had their licences cancelled so far. But the Delhi High court believes they will get new licenses made from other states unless a nationwide database of cancelled driving licenses is made.
The Delhi government is in a fix. If it cracks down upon Blueline buses Delhi's transport system is in disarray. Can the government come up with a solution that pleases all parties?
