New Delhi: The notorious Blueline buses in the capital have claimed one more life. A boy was run over by blueline bus on Route No 355 in Karol Bagh. The victim, again was a school boy. Manish, a class 6 student and a resident of Anand Parbat area of Karol Bagh died on the spot. The driver is still absconding.
The death of Manish, has taken the toll of those killed by Bluebline buses to over 70 this year.
In a separate incident, another bus plying on route No 355 injured a man, while he was crossing the road near Sheila Cinema in Nabi Karim area of central Delhi.
Thirty-five-year old Arjun was admitted to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital. These buses were involved in the death of over 100 people last year, while 142 people died under their wheels in 2005.
Delhi's roads are unsafe because the government and bus operators blatantly violate guidelines set by the Supreme Court 10 years ago. The guidelines say buses should have speed control devices to limit speed to 40 kilometres per hour. They say traffic police to prevent overtaking, and that there should be separate bus lanes and designated bus stops
It’s only after several recent accidents that the Delhi government has made speed governors mandatory. But only for blue line buses and not the Delhi Transport Corporation.
