Associated Press

Yangon (Myanmar): At least 16 people were killed and another 12 missing from a ferry that capsized in a river south of Yangon, state-media reported on Saturday.

The ferry flipped Friday as it tried to steer away from a whirlpool at the convergence of the Kunchyankone and Toe rivers, about 60 kilometers (35 miles) south of Yangon, the Kyemon daily reported.

The paper said the boat was carrying about 70 passengers, of which 42 had been rescued.

Rescue teams continued to search for survivors, the paper added.
