Mumbai: Remember the hit track Daddy Cool? News is that producers of a yet-to-be released Bollywood slapstick comedy Daddy Cool paid around Rs 25 lakh to acquire the rights of the original Boney M track but the makers of Daddy Cool have also been accused of illegally ripping off the English film Death at a Funeral, something that the team denies.
Producer Ashok Thakeria said, “People can speculate all they want about the film, whether it’s a rip off, or it’s been illegally copied. But even before we had shot for the film, we approached the studio and acquired the rights officially.”
Actor Suneil Shetty said, “It's really sad when people do this. They just hear some stuff and then all the media goes all out to splash it over their tabloids. The movie has got the rights acquired from the beginning so nothing was illegal. We should be getting an apology from the people, but we won't I'm sure. But it just hurts.”
Also featuring Aftab Shivdasani, Sophie Chowdhury and Chunky Pandey, Daddy Cool is a slapstick comedy, which revolves around the bizarre happenings at a funeral.
Actor Aftab Shivdasani said, “I'm really looking forward to this film, cause I've got to do something really bizzare and different and I've let go off my inhibitions and my clothes.
Everyone was thinking whether I would be able to do such a comic role, will I be able to speak in Hindi. But I proved everyone wrong in this film, brags Sophie Chowdhury.
Meanwhile, Chunky Pandey said, “I play a drug dealer in the film who lands up at the funeral not to sell drugs but I end up giving the drugs to Aftab and the story goes on from there.”
Daddy Cool is expected to hit theatres this Friday.
