New Delhi: At least one person was killed and 14 others were injured in a bomb blast in Guwahati on Sunday hours before Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was to land there to lay the foundation stone of a second bridge in Guwahati over river Brahmaputra.
A bomb carried by two ULFA militants on a motorcycle exploded in a busy market in the Kumarpara.
The site of the blast was not on the route scheduled to be taken by the prime minister on his way to the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Amingaon to lay the foundation stone for the city's second bridge over the Brahmaputra.
It was also not on Singh's route to the Raj Bhawan where he would halt overnight.
According to reports the blast occurred near the Kumarpara Masjid near the sixth gate in the Kumarpara area under Bharalumukh police station at around 1735 hours IST.
Four of those injured are stated to be critical.
Unconfirmed reports said one the persons, who is believed to be carrying the bomb, died in the blast.
The area was immediately cordoned off and senior police officials rushed to the spot to review the situation.
