Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Thursday directed the Maharashtra government to file a reply to a PIL alleging corruption in purchase of bullet-proof jackets for Mumbai Police.
The petitioner's advocate, Y P Singh - a former IPS officer - had argued in court that it was because of faulty jackets that former ATS chief Hemant Karkare died during the 26/11 terror attacks.
Singh said the postmortem report reveals that Karkare was shot in the shoulder area, which wasn't covered by the jacket he was wearing.
A division bench headed by Justice J N Patel directed the government to file a reply before January 14.
