Boney M looks back at Daddy Cool

, CNN-IBN | Updated Sep 27, 2006 at 11:03pm IST

New Delhi: If you have grown up bouncing to Ma Baker and Daddy Cool in your living room, it’s time to recall the 70’s hit band Boney M. The legendary rockers are in the Capital and CNN-IBN correspondent Reshil Charles could not miss the opportunity to speak to them.

Reshil Charles: Liz, you are the only one of the original four that I recognize. What’s the deal with that?

Liz Mitchell: The deal is that I am the only one who has the right to use the name Boney M officially. I was actually the one who sang the songs back in the 70’s. Also I am the only one who can perhaps recreate the same music live today.

Reshil Charles: Hearing you is one thing but in fact watching you over the years was an absolute delight. It reminds one of the snazzy costumes and those sexy long legs. Do you think the band has lived up to its image?

Liz Mitchell: We would love to take people a trip down the memory lane. We just hope to bring everybody back to where they first heard Daddy Cool or Ma baker. We want people to recall what they were doing at the time when they were enjoyed Sunny and so many other songs.

Reshil Charles: So where do you think is the band heading now?

Liz Mitchell: I just hope to continue with my quest as a singer who has a voice that entertains people and touches their souls. If it wasn’t for the work that we did in the last 18-years, perhaps people would not have been forced to remember us. The fact is that we were equal in a sense to Abba.

Reshil Charles: Thank you for talking to us.
