Chenai: Filter coffee and Carnatic music have always been the perfect combination. Now there is a new addition - a coffee table book on South India’s seven best singers and musicians.
“If we are singing today and if this is our life breath, we owe it to the music and the makers of the music,” says singer and author, Bombay Jayashri.
Most south Indian households now wake up to the aroma of freshly brewed filter coffee accompanied by MS Subbulakshmi's rendition of the suprabhatham.
Most fitting then that, the coffee table book takes the music lover through Carnatic greats from Chemmangudi Sinivasa Iyer to Palghat Mani.
“We have got images that people have never seen before. We have got notes that people have never seen before. We have created it in such a style that even a people who don’t know anything about Carnatic music will be enamoured by it,” says singer and author, T M Krishna.
The launch of Voices Within was a stunning confluence of music, theatre and a more modern form of art cinema. Well-known film cameraman Rajiv Menon showcased his ad film on these Carnatic greats. And the audience lapped it all up.
“It was terrific. If this next stage of Carnatic music then we are very blessed,” says music lover, Suguna Swami.
