Jaswant villain to BJP, hero to Pak post book

Surya Gangadharan, CNN-IBN

New Delhi: Perhaps the greatest irony for expelled BJP leader Jaswant Singh - as he emerged a villain for his own party - is that his book on Jinnah has made him a hero in Pakistan, especially amongst book sellers.

Jaswant Singh has now got a weekend date with Mr Books - Islamabad's most well-known bookstore - on Friday.

Mr Books will host a promotional event where Jaswant Singh will autograph copies of his book, Jinnah: India-Partition-Independence, for Pakistani buyers.

The proprieter of Mr Books, Yusuf says, "Jaswant Singh wil be visiting Mr Books this Friday. We will launch his book in Islamabad. Thousands are waiting for him with a welcome reception."

At nearly Rs 2000 (Pakistani rupees), the book is not cheap. Yusuf claims he had to import the books from Dubai and so had to price it higher, but that it's been flying off the shelves ever since and Friday - with Jaswant Singh signing books - Mr Books could see a boom of sorts.

From Islamabad, Jaswant Singh will head for Karachi to grace a similar event at another bookstore, but for whatever reason, the author refuses to confirm or deny plans to promote the book in Jinnah's land.
