Bookaroo, India's first children's lit fest

New Delhi: This weekend parents in Delhi can take their children to Bookaroo. India's first ever children's literature festival.

The event has over 2,000 enthusiastic children, 40 children's authors, including several from the US and the UK. And they all came together in the Capital to organise the two day Bookaroo.

With several sessions from story-telling to workshops, the children had a gala time. The Bookaroo is the perfect alternative to movies this weekends in the Capital.

The point of the whole festival was not just to have fun, but also to cultivate a taste for books and reading along with meeting writers, illustrators, and other children who enjoy books.

"The festival is just about celebrating books and everything that they stand for which is fun and imagination. It's about engaging young mind in the world of books," said children's books author Anita Roy.

The festival is for children from the age of four to 14.

"My daughter is four and a half years old, and she has been enjoying herself and has been engrossed in the event" said Dipanita, a satisfied parent.

All those involved in Bookaroo 2008 will certainly be hoping that they inspire children far beyond just this one weekend.
