Chennai: Sri Lanka may be rejoicing the end of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), but the rebel chief of the Tamil Tigers remains to be in news in Tamil Nadu as more and more authors are trying to encash on the Eelam war and the rebels with their books.
He may be dead but he is still not history. Books on the LTTE and Prabhakaran continue to fly off the shelves of leading bookstores in Chennai. At least five of them were released after the Lankan army gunned down the Prabhakaran and they have all sold more than a thousand copies.
"The response for my book has been very good. In the first week itself more than 1,500 copies were sold. In fact Landmark had my book on the bestsellers shelf. I was surprised but when I asked they told me that it is selling very well," said author of Prabhakaran, Vaazhvum Maranamum, Pa Raghavan.
"The sales have been very good. We have sold more than 180 copies since his death in a very short period of time. Its moving very well," said Landmark official, Solomon Samuel.
Clearly, Prabhakaran and his Tamil Tigers will be a favourite subject with authors and publishers for a long time. More books on the Eelam war are expected to hit the bookstands in the coming months.
"The sales are quite good. We were thinking that the sales would be better prior to the end of the war, because we thought people would be interested in knowing about it and want to bring a change. But what we actually found is that when we thought that the sales will trail off, the sales have actually gone up. More books on this topic will come out soon," said publisher, Badri Seshadri.
Prabhakaran may no longer be alive, but thanks to the authors of Tamil Nadu, he continues to live on in the state with a number of books coming up on the life of the LTTE chief
