Nice (France): Second seeds Rohan Bopanna and David Marrero suffered a shock first round defeat to crash out of the Nice Open here on Thursday.
The Indo-Spanish pair lost 3-6, 3-6 to American wild cards John Isner and Sam Querrey in just 54 minutes in the opening round of the euro 450,000 clay court event.
Bopanna and his Spanish partner saved 11 breakpoints in the match but failed to save five others and went on to lose.
Neither Bopanna's regular partner Mahesh Bhupathi nor his senior Davis Cup team-mate Leander Paes is playing in the tournament, hence Indian challenge ended with his defeat.
