Border posts get a splash of Holi

Jammu: As the nation drowned itself in multiple hues of colours in the high spirit of Holi, it was time for song, dance and colours all the way to the borders and to splash some colour across the fence too.

There was song and dance in full swing on the Indo-Pak borders on Saturday. It was something even a border fence and guarded posts could not stop.

The border posts were filled with music and masti as the BSF and Army jawans hit the beat right to the tunes of folk songs as well as trademark Holi numbers like Rang Barse, celebrating the festival of colours.

The borders in Jammu and Kashmir have been relatively at peace after the 2003 ceasefire. The Pakistani posts surround these areas from three sides. Despite that the jawans took this moment off from their surveillance duties to celebrate Holi, splashing colours even inside their bunkers.

"Jo shanty chal rahi hai border pe, us hum yeh programme kar rahe hai, (The peace on the borders is a good sign and we can celebrate then)," says a jubilant Constable Major Singh.

And besides the josh, what else makes the soldiers' Holi a shade different was the composite celebrations from all states and region.

"Hum log alag states ke rahne wale hain aur jab sare sates ke naach-gane mil jate hai, toh ish Holi ki rang hi kuch alag ban jata hai (Since we all come from different regions, when different shades of colours mingle, Holi gets an altogether different hue here,)" Constable Sunil Kumar of 141 BSF Battalion, observes.

"It does not matter which region you come from or which community you belong to, we celebrate without any divides," explains HA Khan of Dogra Regiment in true Holi spirits.
