THENHIPALAM: The sub-committee of the Calicut University Syndicate which probed into the encroachments and illegal constructions on the university land submitted its preliminary report at the Syndicate meeting on Friday.
The committee, comprising P M Niyas, K Sivaraman and T A Asharafali, found that both pro-UDF and pro-LDF societies, and some of the Chairs have encroached on the land of the university. The university has allocated 20 cents of land to each Chair on the campus.
The committee found that the EMS Chair has 43 cents in its possession without any records.
The committee has collected enough evidence to prove that there are illegal constructions on the land leased out to the societies and Chairs for official purposes.
The committee has also found encroachment by the Calicut University Employees Cooperative Store and the Women’s Cooperative Society (WCS), both run by pro-CPM unions.
The cooperative store is found to have encroached 3.5 cents of land while the WCS, 3 cents. The Women’s Welfare Society run by the pro-Congress union, meanwhile, is running a hotel on the land leased out to it.
