New Delhi: Even with a limited release, Barfi did "remarkable" business in its opening weekend and collected approximately Rs 34.20 crore nett, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh said.
This is the breakup of the Barfi business: Friday 9.20 crore, Saturday 11.50 crore, Sun (estimated) Rs 13.5 crore. "Barfi was released in less than 700 cinema halls in India (a tiny release as compared to the biggies)," Adarsh said.
"Occupancy at (multi)plexes was fantastic. Barfi has done remarkable business. The film gathered steam with each passing day, rising to the optimum on Saturday and Sunday," he said. Midweek Box Office report is that "Barfi and Raaz 3 are back-to-back hits."
"In view of nominal costs on one hand and revenue generated from India theatrical+Sat+Music+Overseas on the other, Raaz 3 is a Blockbuster," he said.
Here is the Raaz 3 breakup for the second weekend: Friday 2.25 crore, Saturday 2.80 crore, Sunday 4 crore. Grand total: 64.30 crore nett. Though Raaz 3 did get hit by the Barfi wave at the multiplexes, but it remained steady at single screens.
The overseas report of Barfi was also optimistic. "Barfi business is on the rise in New Zealand too. Thursday NZ$ 1,551, Friday NZ$ 5,575, Saturday NZ$ 8,420. Healthy trend," Adarsh said.
"Barfi goes from strength to strength in Australia, after a dull start. Thu A$ 1,862, Fri A$ 27,312, Sat A$ 51,664. Barfi business doubles up on Saturday in major markets of Overseas...
