Mumbai: A five-year-old boy, who had gone missing since Tuesday afternoon, was found dead in a manhole in northeast Mumbai's Mankhurd suburb. Police said a team had been sent to the site.
According to a Samajwadi Party leader of the area, there was a frantic search for the boy who was reported missing from Indira Nagar area of the suburb.
A passer-by happened to peep inside an open manhole and saw the child's hands above the muck and gutter water, said Aqeel Khan, a Samajwadi Party worker.
With the help of locals, the boy brought out of the gutter and rushed to a nearby hospital. But he was pronounced dead on admission, he added.
The Trombay police late on Tuesday said a team had been sent to the site added that they had no details about the incident.
This is the second instance in two days of a child dying after falling into a gutter in Mankhurd area. On Sunday, three-year old Ayub had fallen into a 20-feet deep gutter and his body has not yet been recovered despite efforts by the fire brigade and other agencies.
