Boy drowns in Mumbai swimming pool

Mumbai: An eight-year-old boy drowned in the Shahaji Raje Bhosale Sports Complex in Mumbai on Friday.

The victim Qasim Hameed Ali Sayeed, a second standard student of St Xaviers School, was in the deep end of the pool when the tragedy occurred.

Police said an instructor jumped in and brought the Hameed out. Qasim had difficulty breathing and died on the way to hospital.

But his family members have been blaming his coach for Qasim's death.

"The Andheri Sports Complex is one of the largest in Mumbai. I want to know what the lifeguard was doing?" said the boy's uncle Sheikh Zakhir.

Police registered a case against the coach of the sports complex, which is also known as the Andheri Sports Complex.

"We have lodged an FIR against the coach," said police officer Harish Goswami.

The pool had been reopened by Mumbai Mayor Shraddha Jadhav just two days ago.
