New Delhi: A four-year-old boy drowned after falling into a drain in Ghaziabad on Thursday. What's more shocking is that this is the fourth such incident in the national capital region in less than a month. The victim's father has filed an FIR.

First it was Mahi, then Sumit and now Sunny. All of them have been victims of the death traps that are present all across the National Capital region.

This is how the latest tragedy unfolded"

At 11 am, Sunny came out of his school during the recess and fell into a flooded open drain.

At 2 pm, his father realised he was missing. The school remained oblivious of his absence.

At around 2:30 pm, Sunny was pulled out of the drain, dead.

"I left home at around 12:40 pm. When I reached the school, the teacher asked me if Sunny had reched home. When I asked her where she was, she said Sunny disappeared just five minutes before," Sunny's mother said.

City Magistrate K Singh said, "It is the fault of the school headmistress as well as the municipal authorities. The open drain should've been closed."

But local citizens say that despite their repeated complaints and even formal letters the authorities never bothered to clear the flooded drains.

In spite of so many disasters there is nothing done to cover these death traps. After every death the government merely suspends a few officials and forgets the matter.
