The student claims to have got the idea from a movie. He has been arrested.
Class 10th standard student and kidnapper Rajat said (translated from Hindi), “I watched the movie Kidnap and got a good idea. This is a good way to earn money.”
The boy made a call to his schoolmate’s parents from a PCO and demanded Rs 30 lakh as ransom.
However, this amateurish attempt could not succeed as the police nabbed the boy within a few hours.
SHO Police Civil Lines Aman Kumar said, “His family was building their own house. He needed money. He knew about his family's financial problems and that's why he did this.”
The abductee was rescued by the school peon who heard him crying from a bathroom inside the school.
The room had been locked from outside which surprised the peon who immediately reported to the school authorities.
Principal of St Theresa Convent school, Karnal Reshmi said, “We have a high level of security in this school which is why we could easily locate the trapped child with the help of the staff members within 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, the police hope that the boy will be sent to a juvenile home after the trial.
This might seem like a case of a bizarre incident, but it speaks volumes of the impact movies have on young minds.
