Iron bar pierces boy's abdomen, he survives

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: A six-year-old boy in Ranchi got a new lease of life after doctors managed to remove a six-feet-long iron rod from his abdomen.

The child was impaled on the rod when he fell from the terrace of his house while playing. The child had lost a lot of blood when he was brought to the hospital, and his chances of survival were grim.

The rod had damaged his liver, stomach and pierced his lung.

However, doctors decided to operate, and managed to remove the rod and repair the internal injuries.

Doctors say that fortunately, the child's critical organs like the spleen were not damaged.

The rod was removed after nearly three-hour long operation by a team of three doctors headed by Dr Sandeep Agarwal.
