Patna: A 14-year-old boy was battling for life in a Bihar hospital Friday, a day after he was thrown out of a running train allegedly by a group of policemen for refusing to pay Rs10 as extortion. The teenager lost one of his legs in the incident.

According to N K Mishra of the Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital in Muzaffarpur, Mohammed Shahabuddin was shifted to the intensive care unit after his condition deteriorated on Thursday night.

"His condition is still not out of danger due to serious injuries and excessive bleeding," Mishra said.

"When Shahabuddin was admitted in the hospital, his left leg was amputated," he said.

Sahabuddin made a living selling eatables on trains running on the Sonepur-Muzaffarpur section.

According to police sources, a group of Railway Protection Force were reportedly extorting money from the vendors selling eatables on Gawalior-Barauni Express train on Thursday.

When Sahabuddin offered Rs 5 instead of Rs10 demanded from him, policemen beat him up and threw him from the running train.

The family of the victim were in a state of shock. "Poor like us are made to face such reality. Shahabuddin became handicapped for no crime of his," said Mohammed Moinuddin, the victim's father.

Superintendent of Police (Railway) Amit Lodha said that a probe has begun into the incident and the guilty policemen would be punished.
