Kolkata: An official probe is on after UK based Channel 4 aired a sting operation on Thursday on the theft of data from Indian call centres.
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Kolkata is looking for Sushant Chandak, a middleman shown to be selling customer details in the Channel 4 video.
Chandak, who’s absconding, lived in a middle-class housing complex in northeast Kolkata with his parents and wife.
According to neighbours, the family of four fled on Sunday with essentials packed in bags after a local newspaper reported about the Channel 4 expose.
"I didn't see them leave, but I read in the papers and then heard that they left on Sunday morning," says a local doctor and Chandak’s neighbour, Amit Basu.
Acting on an FIR lodged by NASSCOM, the police in Kolkata are now on Chandak’s trail. The sleuths on the job, however, have very little data on him and refused to speak on camera.
But was it really credible data that Chandak had offered to sell?
That's the big question, which the BPO industry wants answered and the big bosses are keeping their fingers crossed till cops catch up with the fugitive.
