Branson's latest stunt: Get married in space

New Delhi: The flamboyant boss of the Virgin group, Richard Branson, is eyeing another record – he wants to be the first person to marry a couple in space.

The couple, whose name has not been disclosed, will be married on Virgin Galactics maiden space flight next year, and Branson may well conduct that marriage.

Meanwhile, a second couple has shelled out 200,000 pounds for a honeymoon in space.

Virgin Galactic adviser George Whitesides and his wife Loretta Hidalgo have booked in for a honeymoon in that flight at 100,000 pounds-a-ticket.

"We have had two bookings involving marriage, one to get married in space and the other for the couple to have their honeymoon in space. It is possible that Richard could obtain a licence to conduct the marriage," a spokesman for Virgin Galactic was quoted by Daily Mail as saying.

Last year, the 58-year-old billionaire had officiated at a wedding on a Virgin Atlantic flight from San Francisco to Las Vegas.

The Virgin Galactic space project is progressing at a dramatic rate and customers will take part in the first test flights this summer. So far, 200 people have paid for the sub-space experience.

UK's princess Beatrice, whose partner Dave Clark works in the marketing department of Virgin Galactic, has said she plans to be the first Royal in space. Even wheelchair-bound professor Stephen Hawking has paid for trips.
