Break-up: Sahrif pulls out of PPP

New Delhi: The Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) pulled out of Pakistan's ruling coalition Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Monday.

PML-N leader Sharif said that the Asif Ali Zardari's PPP had broken all its promises.

However, the question that looms large is whether the Pakistan government will survive for the moment and the new development means for Zardari's ambition to be the President.

“It is with great regret that we are quitting the coalition with the PPP. We have been forced to leave the coalition by Asif Ali Zardari's actions,” PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif said in a press conference after top leaders from the two parties met on Monday.

“We have resolved to sit in the opposition. We will function as a responsible and constructive opposition and will not seek to destabilise the government. We are committed to full democracy, independent judiciary and constitutional governance in Pakistan,” Nawaz added.

Sharif pointed out that after Musharraf's ouster on August 18, judges should have been restored on August 19. However, he said that it has been one week since then and there has been no development.

He also said that Zardari was declared as the presidential nominee without consultation.

However, PPP's Amin Fahim gave his side of the story. “It was an unnatural alliance and has met its natural end.”

PPP sources told CNN IBN that Sharif's departure would not affect the stability of the government.

Although the MQM is still with the PPP, Jamaat chief Fazlur Rahman has warned he will quit the coalition unless the government stopped army operations in the Bajaur Agency.

Meanwhile, it seems that the Opposition ranks could swell if Sharif is able to break Musharraf's party the PML-Q and bring it over to his side.
