New Delhi: The BJP has formally complained to the Speaker that Samajwadi Party and Congress leaders allegedly tried to bribe three of their MPs to defy party whip.
The three MPs marched into Parliament and filed an official complaint before the Speaker narrating how efforts were made to buy their trust vote. Their complaint includes the names of the high and mighty in the Congress and SP: Amar Singh, and his colleague and the no. 2 in SP, Revati Raman Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s political secretary Ahmed Patel.
However, only one of them - Revati Raman Singh - belongs to Lok Sabha, the other two are from Rajya Sabha and it will be the discretion of Speaker to either refer it to the Chairman of the Upper House or deal with the member belonging to his House.
However, the serious nature of these charges have taken the fizz out of SP’s celebrations, which began after the government had proven its majority. The party is rattled. “The question is can they prove the allegations,” asked Amar Singh.
The BJP means business. The party has taken 24 hours to help the three involved MPs to frame their charges against those who had allegedly offered them money. The party now wants to take this case to its “logical conclusion".
