New Delhi: Fresh violence has been reported in Orissa, this time in Koraput district. The SP of Koraput has been injured in the violence following which, police opened fire to disperse the mob. Curfew has been imposed in the district.

The statewide death toll in the week-long communal violence has reached 15 now, after more bodies were recovered on Saturday.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is now visiting the violence hit areas in Kandhamal district to review the situation. He is also visiting the ashram at Jalespeta where VHP leader Laxamanada Saraswati was killed along with four other activists on August 23, spaarking the communal tension in the state.

Meanwhile, CPM politburo member, Brinda Karat has put the blame of the Orissa violence squarely on the Central Government. She has also blamed Home Minister Shivraj Patil for letting the situation spiral out of control.

"As far as the Congress is concerned, their fight against communal forces in Orissa has not been one that has inspired confidence. If the state govenrnment cannot bring the situation under control, undoubtedly the Centre also has a responsibility within the Constitutional framework to ensure that adequate measures are taken to control the situation. It does not mean that the Minister of State for Home should just pay a flying visit there and come back," she said.
