New Delhi: The cash registers are already ringing for the Indian Premier League (IPL) but more could be on the way.

Two British betting companies, Ladbrokes and Betfair, have approached the IPL to help in a campaign to legalise betting in India.

It is estimated that a staggering $ 2 billion is bet on illegal betting on international matches in India.

In fact strong voices within the Indian cricket community, including those of former BCCI President and IPL board member I S Bindra, have been asking for betting to be legalised for a long time, as they say it will end the curse of match fixing once.

“If government legalises betting, it will be very easy for international betting companies, however big, to set shop in India,” Bindra said.
