New Delhi: British MPs have urged the Malaysian government to take up the plight of the Hindus in Malaysia and not demolish temples.
A group of ministers urged the British government to take up the matter with the Malaysian government in the strongest possible manner.
Meanwhile, speaking out for the first time on the issue, an angry Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi on Sunday said he would resign if the allegation of ethnic cleansing of Indian Tamils in his country is proved.
On November 25, ethnic Indians had staged their biggest anti-government protest in Malaysia. Thousands of protestors braved tear gas and water cannons to raise their voice against alleged racial discrimination.
Mostly Tamils, the protestants are the descendants of 19th Century indentured labourers who worked for British colonists. They comprise nearly eight per cent of the Malaysian population and most of them earn low incomes and work in menial jobs.
