Srinagar: The Dutch national arrested on charges on murdering a Briton inside a houseboat in Srinagar was on Sunday remanded in 10-day police custody by a local court. De-Wit Richard was produced before a magistrate at his official residence by the police, which sought his custody, sources said.
The magistrate gave police the custody of Richard for 10 days. Richard was arrested from Qazigund town of south Kashmir on Saturday while he was trying to escape the Valley after allegedly stabbing 24-year-old Sara Elizabeth to death inside a houseboat room.
Richard has confessed to the murder during questioning by police, the sources said. Meanwhile, the state police chief has written a letter to the Netherland mission in New Delhi seeking Richard's antecedents from the Dutch police, the sources said. The Dutch mission has been asked to verify if Richard had any criminal record back home.
