Like princess Dianna, former supermodel Carla won’t be with her lover at the Taj. According to the newspaper, New Delhi is sending mixed signals over her presence leaving the French worried about possible protocol problems.
Worse still, Sarkozy wants his visit cut short so he can see the Taj Mahal with Bruni. His diplomatic aides though are requesting him to increase his official part of the trip during which he is to conduct sensitive talks on nuclear and defence deals with the Indian government.
Indian foreign ministry sources maintain they have no problem treating Carla like a first lady if so requested by the French.
"In two-thirds of the countries of the world it is impossible for Carla to officially sleep in the same bedroom as the President. The problem is the President doesn't know how to stay on his own at night in his room," The Daily Telegraph quoted a presidential aide as saying.
There remains the crucial question of where Bruni will sit to watch the Republic Day parade on January 26 where her newfound love is the guest of honour.
