New Delhi: Are placement blues finally over for the pure blue-blood in the job market? If initial figures of summer placements at top B-schools are anything to go by, the job market is picking up. Summer placements at IIM-Ahmedabad placed one-third of their total students by the end of the second day, with offers even from consulting firms and investment banks.
In line with expectations, investment banks like Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Barclays took on board a few students on Day One.
It was also IIM Lucknow's last day for summer recruitment and sources say the badly hit finance sector has been the surprise package. Companies like Mckinsey, Deutshe Bank and BCG are offering prized internships.
IIM Bangalore too is expecting several international names to visit their campus this year.
For the moment, it seems like the trend will continue even during final placements. ISB has already registered 150 companies from sectors ranging from marketing, finance and even technology.
ISB Dean, Ajit Rangnekar says, "In general, we are seeing a lot more optimism than we saw in 2009. We believe that the market in 2010 will be on an upswing, if everything goes as expected. And the news that US maybe growing at 3 per cent is wonderful. So there is a distinct change in the sentiment. We are beginning to see a lot of interest even in the technology sector in taking more talent."
Earlier this year, the placement process - usually a crisp three or four day affair - stretched on for weeks. While IIM Bangalore, Kozhikode and Kolkata are still ushering in their summer placement seasons, there may be finally a reason to smile on campuses this year.
