BSF recovers drugs, weapons from border

Attari (Amritsar): Foiling a smuggling attempt from across the border, BSF has recovered 13 kg of heroin with a street value of Rs 13 crore and seven sophisticated automatic pistols besides fake currency on Wednesday night.

BSF plans to lodge a protest over the incident with its Pakistani counterpart during the flag meeting at Attari Joint Check Post, said BSF officials said on Thursday.

The officials said that the troops noticed some movement along the border last night and asked the infiltrators to stop.

However, the infiltrators did not heed to their warning and continued to march inside. BSF troops then opened fire in which the suspected Pakistani smugglers were injured.

However, the smugglers left behind their consignment which included fake Indian currency with a face value of Rs 33 lakh.

A search operation is still on in the area and a heavy BSF force has been deployed.

The incident comes two days after 14 kg of heroin being smuggled from Pakistan in the trans-border Samjhauta Express was seized and four passengers of the train arrested.
