New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh administration on Sunday started covering the statues of Chief Minister Mayawati and her party symbol elephant.
The action follows orders from the Election Commission (EC) in the run up to Assembly Polls.
The EC said that all statues must be covered by January 11 without causing any damage to them.
The BSP has called the move biased and anti-Dalit.
Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Azam Khan has welcomed the move and said government sponsored things should be covered.
"We do not know what the future holds but when the statues of Mayawati, which she believes stands in the heart of the people, will fall then a good time for the state would start," said Khan.
