Bangalore: After much drama and hospital hopping, former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa, 72 hours after surrendering before the courts and getting practically the entire state Cabinet pay him obeisance in hospital, on Wednesday returned to Bangalore Central Jail on a stretcher.
So, what prompted this change of heart?
"He's upset about the media coverage...the bad press that he's receiving," said BJP MLA and Yeddyurappa confidante V Somanna.
The drama that of the last four days further smacks of the influence wielded by a former chief minister who's refusing to be former. The fact that many ministers and religious leaders visited him while he was supposedly in custody has further embarrassed national leaders participating in the anti-corruption yatra.
What upset Yeddyurappa and his followers more is the total absence of any support from rath yatri LK Advani. The senior BJP leader went to the extent of saying that Yeddyurappa had refused to pay any heed to constant warnings from the party high command.
"We had cautioned him earlier, after the Lokayukta report. But he didn't listen and has to pay price," said Advani.
But Advani's words don't seem to have any impact on local leaders in Bangalore.
"Complainant, investigating agencies and judgements are being prepared in Raj Bhavan," said BJP MP and Yeddyurappa aide DB Chandre Gowda.
However, Karnmataka Congress President G Parameshwar said, "You can't threaten entire judiciary, and even the judgement on Yeddyurappa has not come out yet".
How BJP's attitude will be taken by the court itself will be seen on Thursday when the case goes for further hearing.
