Centre will not give a green signal for BT Brinjal for now.
Bowing to pressure from anti-BT activists Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh on Tuesday announced a temporary moratorium on the release of BT Brinjal into the commercial market.
He said there's a need for more tests and time and an independent scientific study will be undertaken to ascertain safety of BT Brinjal.
He also added that BT is not the only way to reduce use of pesticides. Ramesh spoke to CNN-IBN on the reasons behind his decision.
