New Delhi: For the first time since the turmoil after the police firing on March 14th, West Bengal Chief Minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee will address a public meeting at Nandigram on Wednesday.
Nandigram needs a healing touch and assurance must come from the top for a land scarred by endless violence and for people divided into two distinct camps. Buddhadeb Bhattachraya's public meeting on Wednesday will be his litmus test as a Chief Minister. His apology earlier this month is likely to come handy.
The CPI-M plans to mobilise about 2 lakh people at their Nandigram meeting, however, all eyes will be on Buddhadeb's public posturing because CPI-M vote bank in rural Bengal is disgruntled and if the Chief Minister gives out the impression of being extremely partisan like before, the fear is that people might pay back his party in the same coin during the next elections.
