Click to play videoBhubaneshwar: Little Budhia from Orissa is making news again. This time, though, he's walking and not running. But the Orissa government has refused to let him go forward with a 500 kilomtere walk from Bhubaneswar to Kolkata.
Ever since the Child Welfare Council imposed a ban on the five-year-old’s long-distance running, the wonder kid has been preparing not to run but walk a distance of 500 kms from Bhubaneswar to Kolkata on June 6th. His coach and mentor Biranchi Das has declared that this distance will be covered in 10 days.
“I have spoken to West Bengal DG police, Mamata Banerjee, Mithun Chakraborty and lot many IAS and IPS officers in West Bengal. They have all encouraged Budhia for this walk and are ready to give me permission,” says Biranchi Das, Budhia's coach.
West Bengal authorities might be encouraging Budhia, but their counterparts in Orissa are not amused. The Women and Child development minister has categorically denied permission. And has declared strict action against those who will make Budhia walk such a long distance.
"Orissa High Court has given us full power to take decision for the welfare of Budhia and by no means will we allow Budhia to walk such long distance,” says Pramilla Mallick, Minister, Women and Child Development, Orissa.
Unaware of such a strict warning by the child welfare minister, Budhia is confident of making it to Kolkata.
“Last time I could run from Puri to Bhubanneswar. So walking from Bhubaneswar to Kolkata is not a big deal for me. I can easily do it,” says little Budhia the marathon runner.
Irrespective of the controversies, Budhia is all set to walk to success again, and perhaps this might help him in grooming himself for the Olympics.
