Budhia Singh lodges FIR against coach for torture

Bhubaneshwar: He is the wonder kid, an extraordinary child runner and Limca Book Record holder for being the youngest marathoner. He completed a 65 kilometre run from Puri to Bhubaneswar in 2006.

But now Budhia Singh is busy frequenting Baragada police station along with widowed mother Sukanti. He has lodged a formal complaint against his coach.

“He tied me upside down from the ceiling fan,” says Budhia.

Baragada police arrested Budhia's coach Biranchi Das from the training center Judo Hall after receiving a formal FIR.

The complaint alleged that Das had inflicted physical and mental torture to Budhia and exploited him for money.

“When he came home and took off his shirt I saw the scars on his back, and when I asked him he told me that he was being beaten by his coach

I will not let him go back. Why should he run? So that Biranchi Das can make money,” says Sukanti.

Das is now under judicial custody. But he has denied the allegations. And claimed this was part of a conspiracy hatched by Orissa Minister for Child and Women Welfare, Pramila Mallick.

Pramila Mallick says the state government would take steps as per law. But what about Budhia now?

Should he continue his tryst with fame or will he get to live life normally, under his mother's care?

There are no clear answers yet.
