GURUVAYUR: Hundreds of bunches of bananas were today presented at the Guruvayur Sri Krishna temple by devotees on the eve of Onam festival.

The ritual is known as "kazhchakula samarpanam" performed on the 'Uthradam" day on the eve of Thiru Onam.

The first bunch of banana was presented to the presiding deity Lord Guruvayurappan by the temple chief priest Girisen Namboodiri.

State Co-operation Minister C N Balakrishnan and temple managing committee chairman T V Chandramohan were among the devotees who turned up on the occasion.

Part of the bananas presented by the devotees would be used for making dishes for the Onam feast tomorrow to be served to thousands of devotees visiting the temple, temple sources said.
