Dhaka: Barisal Burners and Duronto Rajshahi registered easy wins against Khulna Royal Bengals and Rangpur Riders respectively in the Bangladesh Premier League on Monday. The Burners are now seventh with six points from eight matches, while the Rajshahi jump up to third with eight points from eight matches.
In a very important match, the Burners won the toss and put the opposition into bat. The Royal Bengal openers got off to a great start with Nazimuddin and Shahriar Nafees adding 60 runs in 8.3 overs. After Alok Kapali removed Nazimuddin for 33, former Pakistan allrounder took centrestage. He returned with 3 for 23, including the prized scalp of Nafees for 66, and helped his team restrict the Royal Bengals to 145 for 7.
In their chase, the Burners lost two early wickets for 32 to put themselves in a precarious situation but Brad Hodge (66) and Mahmood (52 not out) put on 93 runs for the third wicket to make it an easy chase for their team. The Burners won in 17.5 overs with seven wickets in hand. For his all-round show, Mahmood got the Man-of-the-Match award.
Earlier in the day, the Rajshahi got the better of the Riders by seven wickets. Electing to bat, the Riders posted 163 for 3 thanks to Shamsur Rahman (68), Junaid Siddique (31) and Nasir Hossain (30). In their reply, the Rajshahi openers Tamim Iqbal (50) and CK Coventry (47) added 95 runs in 11.2 overs to put their team on course. Jahurul Islam hit 38 not out of 18 balls towards the end to seal the match in his team's favour.
The Royal Bengals prop up the eight-team league with four points from eight matches, while the Riders are fifth after six points from seven matches.
