Bus catches fire in Tamil Nadu, 22 dead

Vellore: Twenty two people were charred to death as a bus caught fire late on Tuesday night after hitting a culvert in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu. The bus was on its way from Chennai to Tirupur.

The bus was carrying 24 people and the driver, who survived the accident, has surrendered to the police.

Police say the bus driver lost control while trying to avoid two trucks that collided in front of the bus.

Vellore DIG Jairaman said, "There were two lorries ahead of the bus, one lorry hit the other lorry and the bus was just behind them and to avoid collision, the driver took a left turn and lost control, following which the bus fell into a ditch. Out of the 24 people in the bus, only two managed to come out including the bus driver, the rest were burnt alive."
