New Delhi: Six years after apostrophising North Korea a part of the axis of evil, and its President Kim Jong Il, a tyrant, US President George W Bush has made an unprecedented move.
Bush has written a letter to the North Korean leader urging him to fully disclose his country's nuclear programmes.
Bush sent his word, along with letters, to leaders of other nations participating in six-party talks on North Korea's nuclear programme.
The letter is Bush's most personal intervention on Pyongyang, so far.
The State department’s spokesperson, Tom Casey, highlighted the significance of the letters.
“It reiterates from the highest level in our government, our commitment to the six-party talks, our commitment to de-nucleariz-izing (sic) the Korean peninsula, and it also indicates the seriousness with which we take the current state of the process and the need for a clear, full and complete declaration from the North Koreans.”
North Korea has agreed to disable a key nuclear facility by December 31. Under an agreement, it is required to present a list of all its nuclear facilities, materials and programs by the end of the year.
But the US and North Korea still have differences over what items need to be on the list.
