Butcher doc was unqualified for job

Noida (Uttar Pradesh): Close to 72 hours after Dr Ajay Agarwal was caught taking money to cut limbs of beggars, the UP police have not yet been able to trace him.

Agarwal has disappeared ever since CNN-IBN exposed his gruesome practices of amputating healthy limbs of beggars for money.

On Tuesday, when CNN-IBN went back to the Noida district hospital to do a spot-check on him, it was discovered that Dr Agarwal had been working in the hospital for close to two years without the necessary qualification to be a surgeon.

"As far as I know, for knee surgery, he needs to have a specialised degree and special training. Knee surgery is very complicated. He only has a diploma," Dr Vinod Kumar, Chief Medical Superintendent, Noida District Hospital, reveals.

CNN-IBN also learnt that there were allegations against Dr Ajay Agarwal of fudging a post-mortem report relating to a suicide this January. "The post-mortem should have actually said it was a suicide. But it was shown to be a murder," claims Dr Kumar.

Dr Kumar has already sent a show-cause notice to Dr Agarwal and a report to Principal Secretary (Health) of UP on Dr Agarwal.

He is yet to get a reponse from both. The hospital staff and fellow doctors also give a bad report about Dr Agarwal.

There is no dearth of evidence against Dr Agarwal, but the police still seem to be dragging their feet on the case.

"His attitude towards his patients and work was very poor," alleges Dr Lokesh Kumar, a senior physician.

"He never even looked at the poor patients," says Kusum Samson, head nurse. "He had a lot of connections. No one could say anything. Everyone was scared of him," adds Amir Malik.

The fact that Dr Agarwal was allowed to perform complex surgery without the correct qualification puts a giant question mark on the authorities as well. So far, the doctor has managed to escape due to his high-profile connections.
