Are bollywood filmmakers going overboard?

Mumbai: Makers of some unreleased Bollywood films are planning their sequels even before releasing the first one.

Director of DronaGoldie Behl says, “Just Like Quentin Tarantino after making Kill Bill, I want to make one more Kung Fu film, just like that I've made a VFX film now that I know how to make one, I want to make another VFX film."

Goldie Behl is gung ho about his latest product and so upbeat is the filmmaker about Drona's special effects, that he is all set to make a sequel much before the 50 crore film has hit theatres.

However, Goldie is not the only one thinking of a sequel much before the original film has even got a release.

Also in the pipeline is a third film in the Golmaal series. This much before the sequel Golmaal Returns has returned to theatres.

Actor Ajay Devgan says, ”There will be a Golmaal 3, we are already working on it.”

Filmmaker and director Sujoy Ghosh, has also been given a nod for a sequel of his film under production Alladin, another special effects heavy film reportedly being made with a budget of around Rs 40 crore with stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Sunjay Dutt and Ritesh Deskmukh.

Ghosh says, “The various characters are quite likeable and the audience would want to know what happens to them next. It definitely warrants a sequel.

Are these merely tall claims by directors of sequels to their films that have not yet hit theatres?

Producers backing these projects certainly don’t think so.

Producer of Drona Shristi Arya says, “The adventure films lend themselves to many chapters, and therefore many stories."

Is the Hindi film industry getting way too presumptuous for its own good, is a cash rich film industry turning a little too overconfident for its own good?

In any other time finalizing sequels even before the audience has got a taste of the original film, would be termed as bad economics or even suicidal but for today's cash rich Bollywood - it's just a risk that they can well afford to take.
