B'wood has lots up its sleeve for year-end

Mumbai: It’s raining films in Bollywood like never before. After Don, Jaan-e-mann, Lage Raho Munnabhai, Krrish, Fanna and Rang de Basanti, you would think Bollywood is done with its quota of big film releases. But brace yourself, for the Hindi film industry has a lot more in store for you.

It’s been a year of big film releases and there seems to be no stopping Bollywood even in the last two months of 2006.

First up in November is the Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan remake of the classic Umrao Jaan made on a budget of Rs 20 crore.

"With big budget films there will be Rs 150-200 crore at stake. So, it's an exciting phase," trade analyst, Taran Adarsh said.

Next in line is Sangeeth's Sivan's Apna Sapna Money Money. The makers are hoping the film recreates the magic of last year's multi-starrer hit Kya Kool Hain Hum.

After a spate of non-starters, filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya is back with Vivah starring Amrita Rao and Shahid Kapur.

The film traces the journey of a couple from their engagement to marriage. So, you can expect mushy romance and the Barjatya style song and dance from this film, which is made on a budget of Rs 15 crore.

November will also see Yash Raj Films' big budget action thriller Dhoom 2. Made on a massive budget of Rs 50 crore, Dhoom returns with Aishwarya Rai, Hrithik Roshan and Bipasha Basu.

Also in line to grab some eyeballs at the end of this year is Ravi Chopra's family drama, Baabul starring Amitabh Bachchan, Rani Mukherji, Salman Khan and John Abraham.

And then there is the most awaited film of the year – Mani Rathnam's Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai-starrer Guru, that releases in the last week of December.

Also hitting the marquee at the end of the year is Priyadarshan's comic caper Bhagam Bhaag.

"It's going to be a great phase where you'll see diverse films. Umrao Jaan is different from Baabul and Guru is different from Vivaah. It's a very positive sign," Adarsh said.

So, it seems like the excitement at the box office will continue well after Diwali and Eid.
