Cabinet approves rehab for displaced farmers

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has approved the rehabilitation and resettlement policy for farmers affected by large industrial projects, including Special Economic Zones.

The policy says that land will be provided to all those whose land is acquired for SEZs.

According to the policy, one person from each affected family is to get employment in the project.

Scholarship and vocational training, and financial support are also required to be provided. The policy will also extend to those affected by natural calamities.

The Cabinet has approved rehabilitation policy for farmers on acquisition of land for industrial projects, including SEZs.

Says I&B Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi, "The policy would also cover farmers who have been dislocated due to natural calamities."
