Srinagar: Cable TV operators in Jammu and Kashmir, who had been threatened by militants against beaming channels, resumed service on Wednesday morning.

Barring AXN, Star Movies, Star World and Reality TV, the transmission of all entertainment and news channels has been resumed in view of the assurance by police, a cable operator said.

The operators had stopped beaming several entertainment and news channels since Tuesday after threats from the Al-madina regiment militant group.

The immediate blackout of the channels by cable operators was provoked by the raid conducted by a group of three unidentified militants on a cable TV office in interior Srinagar on Monday evening, police said.

Militants forced their way into the office of Asian Cable Network at Sheeraz Chowk in Khanyar area of the old city and threatened its manager Bilal Ahmed Guroo of dire consequences for not having discontinued the operation of the said cable network, they said.

All cable TV services across the city were disrupted for almost two hours from 1230 hrs (IST) on Tuesday. When services resumed after a few hours, select entertainment channels and all news channels were blacked out.

Fearing trouble, the cable operators said the services were disrupted by a technical snag.

However, one of them on condition of anonymity said they have stopped airing AXN, Star Movies, Star World and Reality TV and all news channels in view of threat.
