New Delhi/Bhopal: The person claiming responsibility for the Mumbai blasts was tracked down in Bhopal.
Ninteen-year-old Sumit Tamrakar, a resident of Chola in Bhopal, was arrested within 48 hours of sending an e-mail to the newspaper's suggestion box on July 16 claiming responsibility for the July 11 Mumbai blasts.
Tamrakar had allegedly posed as the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) chief in Madhya Pradesh and had sent mails to the media and government bodies on “behalf” of terror outfit Lashkar-e-Qahar.
The internet cafe owner, Roop Narayan Srivastava, who helped the crime branch hunt down the accused says he had his doubts when Tamrakar came to his café.
“The crime branch personnel told me that an e-mail was sent from my cafe. They also told me the ID from which it was sent. It was 'jacksmith55'. I checked my systems. I remembered having seen this ID on system no. 3. My pooja ghar (prayer room) is in the same cabin. I remember having knocked the door and asking him to get out for two minutes as I had to offer pooja. He didn't open the door. I was doubtful so I looked at him carefully when he came out. Immediately after that, officials of crime branch came and told me about him. We waited for him to return. As I expected, he came and we caught him,” Srivastava says.
The threatening mail mentioned that a letter had been dropped inside the donation box of a temple.
The letter was later recovered by the police.
The letter claimed whatever happened in Mumbai was only a "trailor and more dreadful and severe attacks would be carried out in Bhopal”.
